Tesla Drive Unit Repair & Replacement

A milling-machine whine, LDU alert, or isolation fault can signal coolant breaching an internal seal and threatening critical inverter components.

EV Reviver’s diagnostic-first approach identifies the source of the issue and checks inverter integrity before replacement—helping eligible Model S and Model X owners potentially save 40–50% compared with a full Tesla Service Center drive-unit replacement.

TESLA DRIVE UNIT DIAGNOSTICS

Protect Your Tesla From Costly Drive Unit Damage

Drive-unit concerns can start with unusual noise, vibration, warning alerts, or performance changes. Left unaddressed, issues involving bearings, electrical components, coolant intrusion, or related systems may lead to more extensive replacement needs.

At EV Reviver, we provide professional Tesla drive-unit diagnostics to help you protect your vehicle from further damage before replacement costs escalate.

Why Tesla Battery Repair Should Come First

Tesla Service Centers Do Not Offer Battery Repair

Tesla Service Centers typically default to full battery replacement—often costing $15,000 to $20,000 or more. This approach replaces the entire pack, even when only a small portion of the battery has failed.

At EV Reviver, we take a diagnostic-first approach—focusing on the exact source of failure instead of replacing the entire pack.

Most Tesla battery issues can be traced to a single degraded module affecting overall performance. By isolating and repairing that component, we restore the battery without unnecessary replacement. A typical Tesla battery repair includes:

  • High-voltage diagnostics to identify the failing module
  • Targeted module replacement instead of full pack swap
  • BMS recalibration and testing to restore balance and performance

This approach allows us to repair the battery at a fraction of the cost of full replacement.

Because we focus only on what’s actually failed, Tesla battery repair costs are significantly lower than full replacement.

Module-level repairs at EV Reviver typically start from $2,500, depending on the number of affected modules and battery configuration. For current offers and detailed pricing, visit our promotions page.

In many cases, over 90% of the battery pack is still fully functional.

A single weak module can trigger fault codes like BMS_u018 or BMS_A064, limiting performance across the entire system. Once that module is repaired or replaced, the rest of the battery can return to normal operation. With EV Reviver’s repair process:

  • Healthy modules are preserved
  • Only failed components are replaced
  • The battery is rebalanced and tested before returning to service

Repairing your Tesla battery doesn’t just restore performance—it helps protect your vehicle’s long-term value.

A properly repaired battery with documented service history is far more valuable than a vehicle with unresolved battery faults. Instead of facing a steep resale discount, you retain a vehicle that’s functional, verifiable, and road-ready.

Are Tesla LDU repairs warranty-backed?

Yes. All Tesla Large Drive Unit (LDU) repairs and rebuilds performed by EV Reviver include flexible parts-and-labor warranty coverage, activated automatically after service completion.

Model S and X use the Large Drive Unit (LDU), which is serviceable and commonly develops bearing wear, coolant seal leaks, and inverter control faults. These units can be diagnosed, rebuilt, and recalibrated to restore smooth power delivery.

Model 3 and Y use the Small Drive Unit (SDU) platform, which has different internal architecture and failure patterns. SDU repairs follow a different diagnostic and service process, and in some cases may require full unit replacement depending on the fault.

A humming, whining, or milling noise in Tesla drive units is typically caused by bearing wear or rotor imbalance inside the motor assembly. In Model S and X LDUs, coolant intrusion can accelerate bearing failure. A proper repair involves full LDU teardown, bearing replacement, rotor balancing, and seal correction to prevent recurrence, not just swapping the unit.

Yes. Model S and X LDUs can be rebuilt. EV Reviver performs bearing replacement, seal repair, inverter service, and calibrated reassembly to restore factory performance. This approach is often more cost-efficient than full unit replacement and helps prevent repeat coolant intrusion with the Coolant Delete upgrade.

We can screen LDU issues remotely by reviewing fault codes, inverter alerts, temperature data, torque output readings, and BMS/drive unit communication errors.

However, confirming LDU failure requires in-shop testing, since problems like bearing wear, coolant intrusion, stator noise, and rotor imbalance cannot be identified through software alone. These require physical inspection, vibration analysis, coolant contamination checks, and inverter load testing.

Remote diagnostics can point in the right direction, but accurate LDU confirmation must be done in-shop.

Our warranty coverage is offered with a time or mileage limit, whichever comes first. This protects against defects in both parts and labor for the duration of your coverage term. Because every repair and battery, drive unit condition is different, your exact warranty term is presented upfront during your estimate, so you always know what’s included before work begins.

Yes. Unlike factory-style long-term warranties that can be expensive and restrictive, we provide shorter, flexible warranty terms designed to match your repair needs and budget. These options lower upfront cost, still include both parts and labor, and provide practical protection without locking you into unnecessary long-term commitments. You get reliable coverage that makes sense, without overpaying for time you don’t need.
